"I
met
Jason Tanner the week
before he had his bad wreck in Dodge City, KS. Jason Tanner
drives the # 7 sprint car.
We talked a bunch about racing and shared some stories about
racing. He's a cool guy and shoots a mean game of billiards.
Then I heard about his wreck and how he got hurt real bad in
Dodge City. I was pretty disgusted (being a racer myself)
and it was a weird feeling to hear about his situation,
especially since I just met him a few days before the
wreck. I called Jason a few times to see how he was doing
during his stay at the hospital. I assisted with promoting
some donations for his recovery and left a couple voice
mails of encouragement. However, I never went to the
hospital to visit.
I kind of felt bad about not going to the hospital,
but.... I don't do hospitals.
So, at the next modified show after Jason gets out of the
hospital, he fills in as crew chief
for me! Man, what a cool frickin dude!
My regular crew chief's uncle is very sick right now. So,
my regular crew chief needed to go to Texas the weekend of
8/25. I had talked to Jason Tanner and told him we were
ready to race, but we were going to be short handed and just
planning on doing the best we could that night.
He volunteered to come help out in the pits ! He worked the
pit area, prepared the car for the race, and gave me some
outstanding advice about driving a race car.
Oh yeah, he did all this while still dealing with
his injuries. He showed us his burns on his leg and they are
very bad.
I just thought the situation was pretty damn cool.
A sprint car driver gets out of the hospital....
A week later he's in the pit area at Hollywood Hills
Speedway helping out a Modified driver.
Hats off to Jason Tanner and a very special THANK
YOU!!"
