Ronnie "Skimmer" Leathem Jr.
Skimmer started racing at the age of 14 in a 1978 Camera Z28, built by Monte and Dan Hunter, at Duke City Raceway. It was a red and white Hobby Stock with the #77 on the side. His next car was also a red and white Hobby Stock, but had the #72 and was a 1982 Cutlass. The following year he got out from behind the wheel to pit for Tracy Harris from 1995-1997. In 1997 he got back behind the wheel, this time in IMCA Modified with the #172. Unfortunately Skimmer was forced to park his Modified in 1998 after a horrible accident on the freeway in which he broke his back, neck and collar bone. He was determined to get back in a race car and in 1999 he began driving for Harry Kent and Cooder Frazier in the #28 Hobby Stock. In 2000 he bought a 1980 Cutlass Hobby Stock built by Eddie Gantt and put a 28 on the side. This time his car was purple and white. Skimmer married his wife, Ann, in 2001. That same year he painted his car black and white with #28 and have been his colors ever since. In 2007 Skimmer and Ann built a brand new Monte Carlo Hobby Stock which he his driving this year. He has also been driving the red and white #97 Street Stock for Dan Jimenez this year. Skimmer has recently won the 2007 Hobby Stock Championship at Hollywood Hills.
