Military: 30 years Navy Reserve, Retired 1992 as HMC

Work: Safeway Store Manager, Machinists, Security Guard ( Rent-A-Fuzz), Customer Service Rep. And most enjoyable my time as a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy Reserve.

Racing History:  Scrambles ( Forerunner of Moto-Cross ) and Flat Track Motorcycles in the late 50’s and early 60’s.  Raced Claimers ( similar to today’s Hobby Stocks ) at Speedway Park 1967 & part of 68.

Racing History:  I didn’t really have any racing highlights, I was at the best a field filler, not a front runner.   The real highlight of my racing experience was as the Chief Flagman at Speedway Park for several years.  I flagged mostly the Late Models, Sportsman and Claimers but also did the Super Modifieds, Motorcycles and Volkswagens occasionally.  In those days I did not flag from a stand on the wall but actually down on the track, which led to some VERY exciting times.  After the 3rd time I was hit and knocked down, my lovely wife Karen said it was time to find a new hobby or a new wife and I chose Karen.  This led to about 10 – 12 years away from racing.

When I went to work for my current employer ( Altec Machine Shop ), their welder was Bud Goodwin ( #15 Winged Sprint ) and he got me going back to the races.  On the weeks I wasn’t able to attend the races it drove me crazy because I could never find out who won.  So I started posting short recaps of the races I did attend on OvalRacin.com for the folks who, like me couldn’t make every race.  Thanks to Susan Valdez ( Webmaster for OvalRacin ) for allowing me to use her great website like it was my own.  In 2004 Jim Kofakis from Hollywood Hills Speedway called and asked if I would be interested in working from the Control Suite and covering all of the races at HHS and naturally I jumped on the opportunity.  Since then Karen and Beth have worked with me at HHS as well as one year at Sandia Motor Speedway when Hollywood Hills Speedway did not open.  Karen, Beth and I hope that folks enjoy being able to see the results at HHS on the nights they are not able to make the show.

Favorite Racing Story:  Somewhere around 1970 or so a Sportsman driver from Estancia, N.M. ( Allen Brandon #10 ) won a Trophy Dash, instead of the usual checkered flag lap he talked me into standing on his Rub-Rail and holding the flag as he made a lap.  Well, not being the sharpest knife in the drawer I thought he would go slow, WRONG, Allen made the fastest lap of his career with me hanging on to the flag with one hand and his rollbar with the other.  That was by far the SCARIEST 20 seconds or so of my life.

Have A Great Day

God Bless Everybody
